ROCKCRAFT STONES FAQs

Have a question? Lets see if we can answer it

  • What can it be constructed on?
The stone can be applied directly onto brickwork, blockwork, masonry and concrete. It should always be laid using a premium quality tile adhesive with an elasticizing component. Adequate waterproofing and sealant should also be considered.
  • Why to select natural stone cladding?
Natural stone cladding keeps the character of the stone face straight from the Earth. Being 30-40mm thick, the stonemason is then able to efficiently build the stone wall onto the brick without the wasted mass of large rubble. Very little of the stone is wasted and there are no trucks dumping large messy loads of unsorted stone on the building site. The source of stone is reliable, with colours and textures constant, in addition there are far shorter construction time frames.
  • Can I just buy the stone and find my own installer or install it myself?
Yes. We can also provide you with a list of Rockcraft preferred contractors.
  • What is the difference between dry laid and mortar join?
Dry laid stone has no joint (or gap) between stones. Mortar jointed has approximately 20 - 30 mm of motar (grout) visible between stones.
  • How big is each stone?
Each type of Rockcraft stone has variations, as a rough guide stones are between 100mm - 400mm.
  • Can Rockcraft construct traditional stone masonry?
Yes, jump on over to our sister site with the link below to view Knappstone.
  • Can I mix different types of stone together?
Yes, rockface stone is sold in 10m2 crates, so you can either split a crate 50/50 or buy a mix of full crates in different styles.
  • Why choose natural stone?
The timeless beauty and strength of stone has made it the finest building material over thousands of years. Stone surfaces are incredibly robust are need no future treatment for generations to come. No building material compares to the lifespan of natural stone.
  • What can I use it for?
Feature walls in both exterior and interior locations, fireplaces, retaining walls, letterboxes and the list goes on.
  • What is natural stone cladding?
Natural stone cladding is a stone from ethical quarries that has a cut back to give a thickness of 30-40mm. When laid it reveals only natural face and edges as stonemasons have done for thousands of years
  • How much do I need?
Measure the surface you will be cladding in stone (height x width) this will give the the meters squared of rockface you will require. Corners are measured by lineal length and can be sold by lineal meter. Each situation is different but allow for 5 - 10 % extra for most projects.
  • I've still got questions?
Great, give us a call or drop us an email. Also follow us on our social media pages to see what else we have been up to.
  • How is it installed?
Each stone is hand selected, chipped to the required fit, then adhesive is applied to the back of the stone and substrate surface to create a strong bond. Mechanical fixings may be required when heights are over 2 meters depending on specific projects.
  • How thick is the stone?
30-40mm, each stone is machine cut, thickness may vary slightly due to the rough natural face of the stone.
  • Can I get a sample?
Sure can, give us a call.
  • How does it arrive?
The stone is packed into wooden crates that can be lifted by a forklift or hi-ab arm. The crates can be lifted onto the back of a ute, trailer or truck. Crates weigh roughly 650kg. Rockface is packed in 10m2 crates, corners are packed in 25 lineal meter crates. We are happy to organise transport or alternatively you are welcome to come and collect from our yard.
